Farming Without the Pressure: A Unique Agrihood Model

Supporting a Farm: A Unique Agrihood Model

One of the most exciting things about life at Burns Village & Farm is that residents get the best of both worlds when it comes to farming. While our community is rooted in the traditions of an agrihood, a neighborhood built around shared farmland, it doesn’t mean every member is required to wake up at dawn to harvest vegetables or tend to crops. Instead, we’ve adopted a model that makes fresh, organic food accessible without making farming a full-time job for anyone but the professional farmer we employ to care for the land.

A Professional Farmer at the Heart of the Community

Our resident farmer(s) ensures the land is cared for with expertise and intention. This means the soil stays healthy and the rhythms of nature are respected. Residents enjoy the benefits of professional farming, seasonal fruits, vegetables, and herbs, without the worry of managing the complexities of crop planning, irrigation, or pests.

Freedom to Grow Your Own

At the same time, each homeowner will have the freedom to decide how much they’d like to participate. You might choose to plant a personal backyard garden for tomatoes, herbs, or flowers. Or perhaps you’ll dive into the larger community growing efforts during planting season, rolling up your sleeves alongside neighbors for the joy of connection. And if you’d rather not farm at all, that’s perfectly fine too; the bounty from our fields can still make its way to your table.

Shared Harvest, Shared Abundance

The beauty of this approach is flexibility. Every member may benefit from farm-fresh produce grown just steps from home, but no one is obligated to take on the task of running a farm unless they choose to. Instead, you can enjoy seasonal harvests, cook meals with fresh organic ingredients, and know that your food was grown on the land you live on.
